How do I apply for membership?

The criteria and process to join the Faculty is dependent on the level of membership required but if you wish to become a practising party wall surveyor, having construction knowledge is a pre-requisite.  Details of eligibility and application process for each level of membership we offer, are described below.

MEMBER

There are two routes to full membership:

Route One:

If you already have experience in dealing with party wall matters and have a sound knowledge of the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 and construction knowledge then you can apply for a direct interview. Your application will be supported by providing:

Two awards – one where you are the agreed surveyor & one where you are one of two surveyors.

  • Corresponding letters of appointment.
  • A notice on behalf of the Building Owner.
  • A letter to the Appointing Owners advising them of the name of the Third Surveyor that has been selected.
  • A copy of the covering letter when serving the award.

Electronic copies of the documentation and £200 interview fee are required to be submitted prior to arranging an interview date. Upon successful completion of your interview, you will be invited into full membership.

The cost of the interview and obligatory purchase of the Faculty handbook are shown on our application form, which you can download below.

Route Two:

If your experience in dealing with party wall matters is very limited but you have a construction industry background then you should attend our Two-day Party Wall Seminar. This takes you from serving ‘Notice’ to undertaking preparing an ‘Award’ as part of a paper exercise on the second day.

Once you have successfully completed our course you are eligible to apply for full membership of the Faculty, subject to attending an interview. Your membership application will be supported by submitting electronic copies of the following:

  • Two awards – one where you are the agreed surveyor & one where you are one of two surveyors.

All of this will be prepared from information and plans given as part of the course pack. Upon successful completion of your interview, you will be invited into full membership.

The cost of the interview and obligatory purchase of the Faculty handbook are shown on our application form, which you can download below.
