This seminar is for those party wall surveyors with a lot of experience.

Anyone wishing to apply for Fellow status is required to attend this course.   An application will have to be supported by supplying a Third Surveyor Award and if a ‘live’ one is not available  then a ‘dummy’ Third Surveyor Award can be produced from a set of instructions given at seminar.

This is a most significant ruling for the party wall fraternity and essentially revolves around the magistrate’s route for enforcing surveyor’s fees by way of a complaint and underpins the Faculty’s approach to including surveyor’s fees in Awards.

Third Surveyor Seminar – 13 January 2016

This seminar is designed to provide a formal framework for the training and assessment of candidates for listing in the register of approved Third Surveyors.

The seminar includes the following topics:

  • Definitions of a Party Wall Surveyor
  • Duties
  • Position and Title

Friday 26 June 2015
Annual Dinner

We have secured the Old Hall at Lincoln’s Inn this year for our Annual Dinner which will be held on Friday 26th June 2015 at 7.00 p.m. for 7.30 p.m. start.  Evening Dress/Lounge suits optional.

Lincoln’s Inn is one of the four Inns of Court and the Old Hall itself dates back to the 15th Century.  The building is of great historic interest and to this end we hope to organise a pre-dinner tour for those who want to join in to include the Old Hall and the Chapel (Great Hall not included as it is being hired out) but can only do so if we have sufficient numbers.

Lincoln's Inn                                                                                                                                                      Lincolns Inn 2

We have also arranged for Shane Sterling, a table top magician, who will circulate amongst you during the evening.  Shane Sterling is fast becoming one of the top close up magician’s in the UK today, his magic has been appreciated worldwide and he has performed his close up illusions for Fortune 500 companies such as Coca Cola, Microsoft and Disney to name but a few. Shane has entertained many of today’s top celebrities and was recently asked to perform alongside singing sensation Ellie Goulding at a Royal Engagement where His Royal Highness, Prince Harry said “Shane is the best close up magician I have ever seen”.

The cost will be £70 per head.

We are giving you plenty of time to book up for this event, but we would advise that you make an early booking as the hall only holds 130 and like most of these things it will be first come first served.  If you do not want to miss out on this prestigious event please book early to secure a place with your guests and at the same time register your interest in joining the guided tour.

Thursday 26 March 2015
South East (Kent) Forum

Following the successful launch of the Kent Faculty Forum, Ken Power, Fellow of the Faculty, is happy to announce details of the next Kent Forum meeting, which is being held on Thursday 26 March 2015 at Thistle Brands Hatch, Dartford, Brands Hatch, Kent DA3 8PA (J3 of the M25).

It is a very interesting venue with its rich motorsport background and history.

The meeting will be held in the Falcon suite and a buffet and soft drinks will be provided between 6.00 and 6.30 p.m.

The Race Bar will be open for anyone who wants to purchase alcoholic drinks.

Please arrive by 6.00 p.m. for a 6.30 p.m. start and the event will finish by 8.30 p.m.

Our expert panel includes:

Nicholas Isaac – Barrister, Tanfield Chambers, London
Gerry Poole -Director, Poole & Company, Chartered Building Surveyors
Paul Wallace – Partner, Bellamy Wallace Partnership, Consulting Engineers

The panel will take a “close and perhaps legally forensic look” at the RICS Draft Award template in the 6th Edition Guidance note and discuss suggested improvements with a view to making your Awards more robust, followed by a presentation on the capacity of party walls and the practical issues flowing therefrom.

Time permitting, the panel also intends to discuss:

  • Getting Notices right for leaseholders and freeholders, especially when they are the same people!
  • Security for expenses for leaseholders and freeholders
  • Trespass, unathorised enclosures and Party Stucture Notices

It will, once again, be a very full and interesting schedule but if there are any burning questions that you want answered please let Ken know as soon as possible and he will try and include them in the schedule.

The room is available until 9.00 p.m. and I am sure the panel won’t mind stopping off at the bar so there will be time afterwards to discuss any other issues.

The forum event is open to members and anyone with an interest in party wall matters, so please bring a colleague along to take part in what promises to be a very interesting evening.  You can obtain a valuable CPD certificate at the same time!

Please let us know if you wish to attend at your earliest convenience in order that we are aware of numbers for catering purposes.
