Ambrose Ceschin, will be delivering the subject on:

  • Schedules of Condition – Why, How, When & Access

Ambrose initially trained as a structural designer in the Government Property Services Agency with initial emphasis on specialist military and security projects but also was involved in with aspects of the Building Regulations and reinforced concrete CAD design, which was just emerging. Following that period, he spent some time as a contract engineer and designer, including working on Sellafield reprocessing plant and sewage outfalls in Sydney. Over time he expanded into private practice and other areas of building technology, both structural & architectural design, and the first taste of party wall matters. The busy business expanded to employ 6 to 8 staff. Along came recessions and unable to keep the practice going went back into the civil service as a structural/security engineer for the prison service, where previous security knowledge was extremely useful in implementing the Woodcock report. In the latter period acted as Project Manager in major prison works contracts. He still maintained and carried out private designs and an interest in party wall matters. After leaving that position, he struck out again into private practice and expanded only to be stymied by the next recession. So, with a large mortgage and three young children any port in a storm would do so he took on the role as Borough Engineer for Epsom & Ewell. This expanded his knowledge in the building regulations and strangely in party wall matters, as at the time there was no training in that aspect for building inspectors, whereas advice was always sought. As a designer he found regulation rather unsatisfying and returned to the private practice that still exists today. This provides a building design one stop shop, as well as structural designs for other practices and of course party wall disputes. Amongst all this he joined the Faculty not long after its inception and went on to become a Fellow of the Faculty, a seminar trainer, sits on the interview panel, recently involved in disciplinary procedures and, of course, organises forums for Surrey & Sussex.
