Guidance Notes
It occurred to the Training and Education team that the same questions and queries were being addressed to them by members, both in email exchanges and during question time at various seminars and forums and the Board Directors agreed that everyone would benefit from the answers being more widely available, resulting in providing Guidance Notes developed to provide the views of a selected panel of members.
These Guidance Notes are intended to assist members in the performance of their duties as a Party Wall Surveyor; to set out the background behind various established approaches to dealing with issues that regularly arise and what practising members should generally expect of each other. They can also serve to explain to Appointing Owners what they can expect of us and why we adopt certain courses of action in various circumstances.
The Faculty’s Guidance Notes are not intended to be rules to be rigidly enforced in every situation, nor are they likely to address every question that Party Wall Surveyors may encounter.
Equally the Guidance Notes are not intended to deter members from raising queries on any issue, but we do expect that the applicable Guidance Notes are consulted first.
We would also welcome suggestions for future Guidance Notes, especially if this is a subject where you would wish to be involved in their development, which would be encouraged.
Further Guidance Notes will be issued over the course of 2025 with a full list comprising of over 20 topics.
