James Lewis qualified as a Chartered Building Surveyor in 1998 and is the Managing Director of James Lewis Chartered Surveyors. Prior to establishing his own practice, James worked in private practice at Associate Director level, where he gained extensive experience in professional surveying services and contract administration.

James now specialises exclusively in matters arising under the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 and has developed a strong reputation for providing clear, pragmatic and technically robust advice to building owners, adjoining owners, developers and design professionals. His work regularly involves advising on complex party wall matters, preparing and serving statutory notices, recording schedules of condition and drafting party wall awards.

In addition to acting as an appointed surveyor, James is frequently approached to act as a Third Surveyor, where he is required to determine disputes between appointed surveyors under the Act. This role requires independence, technical judgement and a detailed understanding of both the statutory framework and practical construction issues.

James is a Fellow of the Faculty of Party Wall Surveyors and a member of the Pyramus & Thisbe Society, both organisations dedicated to promoting professional standards and excellence in party wall practice.

As a Chartered Surveyor and member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), James leads an independent, insured and regulated practice that adheres to the highest professional and ethical standards.

James Lewis Chartered Surveyors predominantly operates across London and Surrey, where the firm is regularly appointed by developers, architects and project managers as their retained party wall surveyor.
